Paris, France
July 02-July 05, 2018:
Prior to a bicycle adventure throughout the south of France, my friend and I spent a few days in Paris to get acclimated to the time zone, food, and culture. Despite only being there for about 3 days, we managed to cover a lot of ground by taking advantage of fantastic recommendations from friends who have been to Paris a few times. We did a (cruiser) bike tour where we learned a lot about the historical landmarks in the city, relaxed on a boat ride down the river Seine, and spent a day at Versailles.
Stray Observations:
- There are A LOT of Yankees hats in Paris and France in general. I thought I would stick out like a sore thumb wearing mine, but I guess I fit right in.
- Unlike NYC or LA where giant billboards are constantly fighting for your attention, I noticed considerably less advertising in Paris. I'm guessing there are historical laws prohibiting it.
- The sun doesn't set until like 11pm in the summer. Whoa.
- The metro is efficient and super easy to use.
- Most restaurants close in between lunch and dinner service.
- The coffee sucks. (and like most places outside the U.S., good luck finding ice.)
- Smoking is still a thing.
