July 05 - July 14, 2018:

A few years ago I bought a proper road bike, met some cool people, and started riding out in the canyons of Malibu. I discovered the pain of riding up a steep road, the jubilation of reaching the top, and the adrenaline of pedaling down really fast. Next came my interest in watching professional cycling, particularly the Amgen Tour of California and the Tour de France. I became familiar with the mystic mountains of the Pyrenees and the Alps, and thought it would be kind of cool to ride them myself. So I found a company that provided bikes, lodging, and support for such a ride - Trek Travel!

From day one it was very clear that although I trained and improved my fitness from when I signed up for the trip, I was still way out of my league! The mountains were tough, but with the support of my friend, strangers (and now new friends) I met on the trip, and the Trek Travel guides, I managed to ride about 285 miles and gain 39,000 feet of elevation in 8 days. I am proud to have accomplished this feat, but also inspired to work even harder for the next goal. Vive le Tour!
