About
From the fall of 2006 to 2007, I lived in Japan. I spent my senior year of undergrad as an exchange student at The University of Tsukuba. During this time I took Japanese language classes and a few general culture classes. More importantly, I spent the year building friendships with the other exchange students and the Japanese students. I had earned several scholarships to fund my year, including one from the U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program, The Freeman-Asia program and one from The American Association of Teachers of Japanese Bridging Scholars foundation. To earn the scholarship money, I proposed making a documentary about my year. And so, during the course of my time in Japan I videotaped some of my experiences. I returned to a little room at SUNY Oswego to edit the piece together. It was there I realized I kinda liked this editing thing.
A few months later I booked a one-way to ticket to Los Angeles, and with a little help from my friends was able to start a career in post-production. Now I’m an editor, proud member of IATSE 700, and am fortunate to have a job that I really enjoy.
Editing unscripted TV funds my other passions - cycling and traveling. In 2018, I combined both of those things and took an epic trip cycling the famous climbs of the Tour de France.
